Important note regarding long trips:
Due to the variations in internet speeds effecting the uploading of data from your iPhone to our server, we strongly recommend that you you take a break every 90 minutes or so to break your long drive. This means that a three hour trip becomes two 90 minute trips. This will resolve any log submission frustrations, and keep you fresher and safer on the road.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):
- Can the LDR™ app be used in all states of Australia?
Yes, LDR™ has been designed to allow users in all states of Australia track and record their driving time in accordance with their states' manual log book requirements.
- Will incoming calls or texts affect the App whilst in recording mode?
In the situation where a call or text is received, your supervisor (being in charge of your phone), simply clicks "close" on the pop-up prompt to ensure the App continues recording.
- Why is my App closing unexpectedly?
Applications on iPhone may close unexpectedly because the device has begun to run low on application memory. This does not mean there is too much data stored on the device, but simply means that it is running too many memory-intensive tasks.
- How can I stop my App closing unexpectedly?
The following tips may help if this issue occurs and may help prevent these behaviors in the future.
- On devices that support multi-tasking with iOS 4*, you can close applications running in the background. To do this, double-tap the Home button to display a menu of recent applications, hold down any icon until it 'shakes', then click the red minus on the icon for each application you wish to close.
- Use iTunes to update to the latest version of the iPhone software.
- Turn iPhone off and on and then reopen the application you were using. To turn the iPhone off and on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of device for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. (Closing down the iPhone on a monthly basis is highly recommended).
- With Safari, try to minimize the number of pages/browser windows that are open on the device by closing the Safari windows that are not being used.
* Multi-tasking is available only when using iOS 4 or later with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS.
- What should I do to ensure I get best results from my LDR™ App?
Close down all Apps that are not required to be open and ensure you are using the most recent version of iPhone updates - refer points above.
- What is the difference between 'submitting' and 'uploading'?
'Submitting to your log' will save your current driving session to your local iPhone database until you are ready to 'Upload to the LDR™ Website'. As you may be in a low internet connectivity area, you submit your trips to ensure they are saved, and then upload to the website when internet connectivity is stronger or you are connected to a WIFI network.
- My current trip has not been Uploaded. How do I ensure it gets uploaded and how do I know when it is uploaded?
Occasionally a trip can not be uploaded to the server due to lack of internet connection or busy server. In these instances the trip will continue to show in red on the session log. When you next gain internet connectivity, select the trip from the session log and click on Upload to LDR™ website. Once successfully uploaded, the session will no longer be red on the session log.
- Are my sessions backed up every day? At what time?
Yes, all sessions that have been uploaded to the LDR™ website, are backed up daily at midnight.
- How do I "confirm" my odometer?
Simply click on the cog-wheel in the left-hand corner of the odometer field and this will "confirm" that reading as your odometer reading.
- Why is it taking a long time to find my "location"?
Several factors such as signal strength of your carrier, satellite, weather conditions, and interference from obstacles such as buildings in the CBD could possibly interfere with the App finding your location.
- How many attempts can be made to sign off my driving session?
You have two attempts to sign on the device, and the third one is locked in.
- What changes can I make to my personal details?
You can change your Leader Board Nickname, Suburb, Contact Phone Number and Password on the App. Go to the "Settings / Edit Your Details" screen on the App, input your new details in the applicable field(s), click on save, and your changes will be updated accordingly.
- Why is my map not accurate on the website session log?
Accuracy of the driving session maps depends on several factors such as signal strength of your carrier, satellite, weather conditions, and interference from obstacles such as buildings in the CBD. Signal strength in rural and regional areas will also vary from one carrier to another. It is important to note that despite occasional mapping inaccuracies which are out of LDR™s control, the session time, date and distance traveled are still accurately recorded, which are the key requirements of most driving sessions.
- Is recording of driving hours via the LDR™ app recognised by the Road Authorities?
Most, if not all roads authorities in Australia are aware of LDR™. Although the app is not currently endorsed by road traffic authorities, e-log Systems are in the process of meeting with relevant authorities around Australia in coming months, with a view to them accepting LDR™ as alternative for logging hours and road conditions.
In the meantime we are encouraging those that want to ensure that their data is protected and backed up, that they use the LDR™ app as an insurance policy against losing or misplacing their log book.
